Teen & Young Adult Counseling

Teen Counseling & Young Adult Therapy in Arizona

Compassionate teen therapy and young adult counseling across Arizona. Telehealth available statewide. Free 15-minute consultation.

Why Teen Counseling Matters

Adolescence and young adulthood are some of the most formative—and most challenging—years of a person's life. Teens and young adults face academic pressure, social media comparison, identity exploration, family changes, and the weight of planning their future, all while their brains and emotions are still developing.

When a teen or young adult is struggling, professional counseling can provide a safe, confidential space to process what's happening, build coping skills, and develop the resilience they need to thrive.

I work with teens (ages 13–18) and young adults (ages 18–25) across Arizona through secure teletherapy. Sessions are collaborative, practical, and tailored to where each client is developmentally—no lectures, no judgment, just real support.

Who I Work With

Teens (Ages 13–18)

Adolescents navigating school stress, peer relationships, family conflict, identity questions, mood changes, or the transition to high school and beyond. I collaborate with parents when appropriate while keeping the teen's confidentiality the priority.

Young Adults (Ages 18–25)

Emerging adults facing college transitions, career uncertainty, leaving home, relationship challenges, anxiety, depression, or questions about identity and purpose. A space to slow down, reflect, and build a life that actually feels like yours.

Common Concerns We Work On

If any of these sound familiar, you're not alone—and you don't have to figure it out by yourself.

Anxiety & Overwhelm

Constant worry, panic attacks, social anxiety, perfectionism, or feeling on edge. Anxiety in teens and young adults is rising—therapy helps calm the nervous system and rebuild confidence.

Depression & Low Mood

Persistent sadness, loss of interest, isolation, low motivation, or hopelessness. Depression is treatable, and early support makes a meaningful difference.

Identity & Self-Esteem

Questions about who you are, your values, your faith, your sexuality, or your place in the world. A safe place to explore without pressure to perform or pretend.

Family & Relationship Conflict

Parent-teen tension, sibling conflict, blended family stress, or strained friendships. I help families improve communication and repair what feels broken.

School & Performance Pressure

Academic stress, test anxiety, college pressure, decision fatigue, or burnout. Together we build sustainable strategies so school doesn't take over your life.

Social Media & Digital Stress

Comparison culture, online conflict, screen-time overwhelm, or anxiety from constant connectivity. We work on building a healthier relationship with technology and your own attention.

Trauma & Difficult Experiences

Bullying, loss, family separation, accidents, or other overwhelming events. Trauma-informed therapy helps your nervous system process and recover.

Faith & Spiritual Questions

Questions about faith, doubt, or how beliefs fit into your life. For clients who want it, I integrate a Christian or faith-based perspective.

How I Work With Teens and Young Adults

Therapy should feel like a real conversation, not a lecture. I tailor my approach to each client's age, personality, and goals.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Practical tools for managing anxious thoughts, breaking negative cycles, and building skills you can use between sessions. CBT is well-researched and highly effective for teens and young adults.

Family Systems Approach

When appropriate, I work with families to improve communication, reduce conflict, and rebuild trust. Sometimes the most powerful change happens in how a family talks to each other.

Solution-Focused Therapy (SFBT)

Goal-oriented work that helps you identify what you want to be different and build a path toward it. Especially useful for young adults who feel stuck.

Faith-Integrated Counseling (Optional)

For clients who want it, I integrate prayer, scripture, and a Christian perspective. Faith integration is always client-led—never imposed. See Christian Counseling for more.

What to Expect

  • A free 15-minute phone consultation with me—no pressure, just a conversation to see if we're a good fit.

  • Sessions are 50 minutes, scheduled weekly or bi-weekly, held via secure teletherapy from anywhere in Arizona.

  • Your first few sessions focus on understanding what brought you in, your goals, and building comfort with the process.

  • Everything you share is confidential (with the legal limits I explain up front). For minors, I balance confidentiality with parental involvement based on each teen's safety and developmental stage.

  • We'll regularly check in on what's working and adjust the plan as you grow.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my teen needs counseling?

Common signs include persistent mood changes, withdrawal from family or friends, drop in school performance, sleep or appetite changes, increased irritability, or talking about feeling hopeless. You don't need a crisis to benefit from therapy—early support often prevents bigger struggles later.

Will my teen actually talk in therapy?

Most teens are skeptical at first—that's normal. I focus on building trust before going deep. Many teens are surprised at how much they open up once they feel respected and not judged. If a teen isn't ready to talk much in early sessions, that's okay—we go at their pace.

Do parents sit in on teen sessions?

Typically not during individual teen sessions, but I'm happy to schedule periodic parent check-ins to share general progress (not session details, to preserve your teen's trust). For younger teens or families in active conflict, I may suggest a hybrid approach with both individual and family sessions.

Do you offer Christian teen counseling?

Yes. Faith integration is available for clients who want it, including prayer and scripture when appropriate. See my Christian Counseling page for more on how I integrate faith into therapy.

What does teen therapy cost?

Individual sessions are $125. I'm in-network with Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare. Self-pay options are also available. Your first 15-minute phone consultation is free.

Do you offer teletherapy for teens?

Yes. All teen and young adult sessions are held via secure video teletherapy, available anywhere in Arizona. Many teens actually prefer the comfort and privacy of attending from home.
